The Point.

At some stage someone will have to ask "What is the fecking point of all this?". Someone will say "Look, this government is like the worst kind of zombie mob (many zombies are fine un-persons and are not as bad as this government) and , honestly, they've had a good go and can just shamble off to whencever they came. Honestly."
Today comes news that the education minister, Hekia Parata, was told what decision to make in the case of a private school that was going down the gurgler.
By law, the education minister has the sole right to approve an integrated school, and the October 31 paper asks Ms Parata to "now . . . make your final decision".
A letter for her to sign, informing the school of the news, was attached.
The decision was to prop up a failing school in my home town, a private school that for many years was supported by rich people and gave their sons a good education, so I gather.
But now times have changed and it needs government assistance so this government, who announced a CRACKDOWN on beneficiaries last week, is going to give them $3.1m a year. Over the wishes of the education minister.
Fuck.

Grrrrrr. This makes me SO FURIOUS. What about some money for my poor state school? What about more teachers??? I have 29 students in my top Level 2 English class, and there are 31 and 33 in the other two respectively... how can we get the great results these kids deserve when the classes are that size. Pfffft.

Rant over. For now.

Ahh. The elimination of "government corruption" by the simple expedient of legalizing bribery.

It's not just for Americans anymore...

Ah... a prestigious bastion of prestige.

As is all too common worldwide, it's the reverse Robin Hood situation, stealing from the poor to help the rich.

Another Kiwi makes a few appearances in this Dim-Post comment thread (wherein the blogger collects examples of the Gubblement announcing a crack-down on alleged beneficiary misbehaviour every time it needs to distract the public from some scandal or spectacular non-success of Gubblement flagship policy, i.e. depressingly often).

It's the same the 'ole world over, Nats are Republicans are Socialists with Chinese Characteristics. Kiwis are classy, though, in giving "gubblement" a full three syllables instead of the two for US "gummint".

It would be a darned shame to lose the tradition of rich folks lording it over everyone else.
