Perhaps he is unaware of all artistic traditions.
Update: Link to helpful Heartfield background added on suggestion of Yastreblyansky in comments. The Tate had a good exhibition of his original collages in 2011, but I can't find an online catalog.
The bottle is then riddled, so that the lees settles in the neck of the wine bottle... Manual riddling is still done for Prestige Cuvées in Champagne... mechanised riddling equipment (a gyropalette) is used instead. (Wikipedia)
