Artificial intelligence

How close are we to a system that can think and reason? Could be a shortish talk.

He says
Here is a selection of the hits I get when I Google "intelligence is"

* Intelligence Is Bliss
* Intelligence Is The Future
* Intelligence Is A Curse
* Intelligence is a critical need
* Intelligence is largely inherited
* Intelligence is negatively associated with the number of FSS
* Intelligence is possible after all
* Intelligence is Sexy
* Intelligence Is Hard to Find

But hard intelligence is good to find, if I remember my Mae West

I was going to write something about this and forgot.

I will have my sentient roomba yet!

IBM says that it will make an artificial brain one that uses specially designed hardware and software to mimic what's inside our heads.
HAL 9000 is a good name for it.
Seriously I don't want brains like mine in charge of airports or the like.

Sentient Roomba would spend all its time hanging out on vacuum blogs and never get around to cleaning up. It would still occasionally terrorize the cat, though.

It is reassuring to know that hanging out on blogs, never cleaning up and occasionally terrorising the cat are the signs of sentience. This is a helluva lot easier than the Turing test.

Intelligence is a little bird tweeting in meadow.
