The Great Cheese Caper with update!!

The two males were spotted by a member of public who contacted police and maintained observations on the vehicle as it was driven away through rural back roads while the occupants threw the boxes out the window.
Scoop has the story
No mention is made as to whether or not the criminals were dressed as mice.
Anyone locating a block is requested to contact police. It will be easily identifiable by the level of road grit found in the contents when eaten.

What if the label is "Stony Creek Cheese" or some such???

OMG there's an Update
Police believe that large blocks of cheese recovered after reports of people acting suspiciously near Halcombe have been stolen from a container on a train en route to Auckland.

A train believed to be linked to the recovery of numerous boxes of cheese in the Halcombe and Marton areas earlier today has now arrived at Auckland and it has been confirmed that five containers of the train have been broken into.

All five containers have been isolated and police are now working with Kiwi Rail to establish what was in the containers and exactly what, if any thing, has been stolen from them. One is confirmed as carrying cheese

My second book of poems will be called "Confirmed as Carrying Cheese"

Future headlines will cover the theft of industrial quantities of sponge-cake and jelly.
This is not actually a crime in New Zealand.
