Marine worm of the Week

I'm going to start with my favourite and the one I have seen in the wild. In some circles it is known as the Spoon Worm yet the students I was with called it the Penis Worm. It's defense is to squirt a thin stream of water at one.

Urechis novaezelandiae With that scientific name it has a good claim to be our national animal.

Well, it didn't take long for this to degenerate into a "Look, Nature is full of dicks" blog, like every place else on the Internet, did it?

What took you so long?

Here's our contribution, from the opposite corner of the Grand Ocean, & also in the nautical vein.

You don't like science?
We have those geo ducks things down here, I think, but they've got a different name.

This is fine penis-blogging.

LOL! I was trying to think of the geoduck, but the name escaped me and then, voila! There it was.

I believe this also looks like the Korean Penis Fish... also known as the Urechis caupo.

Is that a urechis caupo in your pocket or are you just happy to see me??

Those Urechis's. They have image problems.

I'm very scientific, but I think science should be used mostly to blow stuff up.

Pronounced "gooey-duck" for some reason. That may throw people off.

Indeed the best science has the "blow stuff up" function but if one can introduce some schoolboy humour then it is a win win situation.

It is very like a kush.

Urechis caupo
That is not a name; that is a combination of captcha-words.
