Ah you want the A39, slimy bastard

In New Scientist  there is a report of the road map of Great Britain being replicated by slime molds growing on an agar plate shaped like GB. I'm not sure what this means except a rather empty in-tray at NS at this time of year but it made me wonder ( Ooh, it really makes me wonder)
1) Can this government legally leave road making to slime molds?
2) How much will it cost to change the road signs to "Molds at work".
3) Will they have a slime mold turning the Stop/Go sign at roadworks BECAUSE THEY ARE NOT VERY TALL.
4) What happened to all the towns and such like that the molds made, in all innocence and with belief in a benign agar source?

I recall that the subject of Petrie dishes has come up in the past.

They're in the union. Or some kind of union.
