“I’m still concerned that a lot of the techniques we used to keep the country safe for seven years* have been taken off the table,” Cheney said.Something must have happened in the first year of the Cheney administration that stops him claiming eight years of safety.
* Not sure where the "seven years" comes from, since the Cheney administration did not officially start torturing people until giving itself permission with the Bybee and Yoo memoranda in August 2002.

The seven years in question were 1788, 1819, 1822, 1869, 1892, 1903, and 1922.
What? Nothing of significance to the security of United States happened in those years, you say? Nothing you KNOW of, peacenik.
(The employment in March 2002 of the "monofilament wedgie" is the controversial eighth year, BTW.)
Ouch. Hurts just to contemplate.
You just don't get it, do you.
You merely torture the calendar sufficiently and it provides whatever results you demand of it...
the techniques we used to keep the country safe
Exporting the murder rate to Iraq was pretty sharp.
It all depends on what your definition of "safe" is.
Not to mention, country.

and "we"
You're safe as long as you cook the hamburger all the way through.
Your safe when the second baseman misses the tag...
When a safe falls on your head you're the safe according to Mollycule Theory.
When a safe falls on your head
that's amore!
