On Saturday, which was a bone-chilling -14C, I boarded the subway at Nereid Avenue in the Bronx and there was a pigeon, aka feral rock dove, riding on the train, basking in the warmth of the electric heater. It lasted for several stops until the press of H. sapiens became too alarming.
The London Underground is also noted for breeding a new race of train-riding pigeons. They really need to place little copies of the route maps down by the door at pigeon level so they know which is their stop.
