Well, education seemed like a good idea but it costs too much

News from the UK  that they are going to slash and burn the tertiary education system. And rightly so! The last thing we need is a lot of over educated types runnin' about scaring people with talk of Global Warming and the like. All you need to know in this life can be written on the palm of one hand!1~
Highlights: • Entire campus closures at Cumbria and Wolverhampton universities, where buildings will be mothballed and students transferred to other sites.
• Teesside University scrapping £2m worth of scholarships and bursaries that would have helped poorer students

While in Sensibleland
The policy adopted by the government is in stark contrast to the response in the US where President Obama this week proposed a 31% increase in education spending for next year in order to combat unemployment and develop skills.

Of course, in the american system obama has no domestic power, and his proposal increase education spending, once it has run it's course through the legislature will be a program to give cigarettes and SUVs to junior high school students and to provide tax deductible vouchers to college students to attend classes where they teach saltwater economics and christianist philosophy....

Lord Mandelson, Secretary of State for Business, Innovation and Skills, states: "We want universities to play to their strengths, but we also want to keep this country civilised"
Was being civilised ever in any doubt. It seems that it may be a possibility that the U.K. may slip of the rung of civilisation as the UK government is seeming to hint at. The Sex Pistols were right after all. "Anarchy for the UK" Or would "Pretty Vacant" be more appropiate for his Lordship?

Yes, that did strike me as an odd comment and does seem to hint at the aristos eying up the vacant buildings for servant training institutions.

The Tories want to be like the Finns. Except, you know, all the Finns kinda get the same deal and I can't imagine a Tory wanting that.
