A safety net would be a good thing,
for when we walk the highly wired life.
Woven by friends, families, neighbours,
artist, writers and maybe even poets.
It is odd that a quality we aspire to,
down-to-earthness,
is so feared.
The earth is not forgiving when
we slip up, up there.
Yet it is the slip down that does
the damage.
A cricketer told me
Modern players are too
careless against
head high bowling,
because they have helmets.
And I wonder if a safety net
might make us careless about
failure.
But cricket balls are not
like the knives of self-contempt
we lacerate
ourselves with.
A safety net will not blunt those,
It might just slow you as you fall.

I like it.
(even though you didn't work phlegm in)
Love this, you got your own style going there.
Sorry about the lack of phlegm, would "spit" be OK at some stage?
Thanks Merc, it is me.
spit is easy - cricket is hard - ya done good.
There really isn't a safety net in life.
One stupid error in judgement.
One stranger gripped by rage and victimization.
One idiot in control of 2400 pounds of internal combustion powered kinetic lethality.
One unlikely confluence of gravity and a mishandled safe.
It's something to make us feel invulnerable. To examine one's actual vulnerability is to stay in a back corner in a fetal position with a pistol...

Perhaps the Black Caps should switch to a different sport.
To examine one's actual vulnerability is to stay in a back corner in a fetal position with a pistol...
Also the best back corners have already been taken.
This could be interpreted as a critique of Reagan/Thatcherism (I almost posted the perfect typo-ragin' Thatcherism).
Well done, old chum!
Love it.
excellent!
Please allow me to add my voice to the calliope of acclaim!

Sure would be terrible to be able to be careless once in a while.
Please allow me to add my interpretative dance to the terpsichore of acclaim!
Thank you for sharing this.
