Poem- Spiking

I looked up to that smart young man,
who sang the angry songs,
that sliced up,
Thatcher's revolution.

But we grew up
and both went soft
occassionally sparking
in the dark.

Now I read online
that his personal life
is a scrambled, soggy mess
and he is an elder statement.

But the old stuff
pumps the blood as it always did,
and I love that angry, spiky
London kid.

Sneering his defiance
flattening their defences.
Burning down the state
loving with his hate.

Jonathan Richman?

Haha, just kidding. Nice poem, A.K.

Marc Bolan didn't ever make it to "elder" though or Thatcher's revolution.

Elvis Costello??

I'm guessing this is the story of Johnny Rotten.

I thought of him first off, but no... I second guess. Don't ask obvious questions so early in the morning! I'm too gullible.

I also often think of Johnny as being dead... but then realize that's Sid.

Who is this Rotten you speak of?

Yeah, I'm thinking Billy Bragg... I was a little disappointed that this poem wasn't about the Riddled office party punch bowl, though, but that's the hangover talking.

Billy Bragg never struck me as hateful.

It's some of Paul Weller. Some not. "What You Give is What You Get" has the line in it "Someone who loves with a passion called hate"

HA HA no one wins the free subscription to "Riddled After Dark"

The Television Personalities informed me that he was a hippie.

My bank sends me statements written in the Elder Tongue. Do they count?

"Burning down the state
loving with his hate."

That is beautiful.

A thought that went thru my head was that he was talking about himself. *shrug*

MACK Bolan.

Just sayin...

zombie rotten mcdonald said...

Why am I not surprised that mikey is familiar with The Executioner?

mikey said...

It was nothing less than the Bolan saga that got me interested in my lifelong hobby of building and servicing suppressors...

...and, of course, vibrators.

I wonder what the connection is?
