Michael Moorcock, ahead of his time

Thx John Revolta at S,N!:

Discount Gun Sales is proud to team up with the Susan B. Koman Foundation to offer the Walther P-22 Hope Edition in recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. A portion of each P-22 Hope Edition will be donated to the Seattle Branch of the Susan G. Komen Foundation.
... you know who else shot himself with a Walther?

Oh yes. This sort of thing is, oddly and incongruously quite popular with the "Right to Life set.

Was that Oprah nursing him back to health?

What a pussy that Hitler was. Getting shot with a pink breast cancer gun.
Pffft.

To be fair, he used a PPK, not a pink P22.

Mikey, what a freaky article. I can't BELIEVE she sighted a gun with no safety on him.

To be fair, Tigris (and I had a BIG argument with Josh Marshall about this) but modern third generation automatics actually have multiple (typically three) safties.

I thought it was kind of horseshit and totally missing the point for the media to create a fake freakout over that gun having "NO SAFTY". What they are actually saying is it has no MANUALLY OPERATED EXTERNAL SAFETY.

Here's some interesting data. NO glock has a(n external) safety. NO revolver has ever had a safety - and thats a LOT of handguns. No HK USPs, no modern Sigs. Millions, hell, TENS of millions of handguns in circulation don't have safeties. That's not the problem with what this wackaloon did. And that puts the (artificial, in this case) responsibility on the gun rather than on the nutjob WITH the gun....

The presence or absence of a safety strikes me as the least important element.

If I understand the story properly, Arizona politicians ban *everyone else* from carrying firearms into the legislative chambers while insisting that nothing should interfere with their own constitutional right to do so.

What's really over the top is that the Republican party in Gabby's district raised some money by raffling of a Ruger just like the one that shot her and killed a few other people, including an eleven year old child after the fact.

Sick motherfucking bastards. Irony without couthe is just cruelty and mean indifference to atrocity rearing its ugly head.

The lack of a safety is secondary to pointing it at the guy's chest.

"Hello Kitty gun" is still a fun image search.

Oh, for a "Cadmus" to throw a rock in the midst of the chamber.

A boy can dream, eh?

Also, my second favorite sentence EVAR was in A Cure for Cancer: "Frank sank."

OK, I'll bite. What was your favourite sentence?

Precisely. It is meaningless, and to report it shifts the context from a crazy woman with a gun and an unhealthy willingness to wave it around who happens to be in the legislature, which is the actual important information...
