I like my metaphors mixed, not stirred

Apparently the World Stage is one of those ambitious productions where the stage machinery includes a miniature railway. At the beginning of Act 2 Massey University comes chuffing along out from the wings on one side trailing a cloud of steam, pulling New Zealand along behind as it turns the wheels, only to disappear again on the other side.

Massey University
This sounds rather Wagnerian -- some director's attempt to make a name for himself with a modernist production of the Ring Cycle based on the aesthetic of Thomas the Tank Engine -- not so much avant-garde as avant-conductor. Wotan is the Fat Controller. Zombie Ken Russell could make it work.

But apparently this is "an exciting new chapter" rather than "an exciting new scene". This sounds more literary than dramaturgic so I am beginning to think it is actually one of Wolfgang Bauer's unperformable microdramas. This means a serious absence of buxom contraltos, imagine my disappointment.

A fun search any time is "world-class city" with the quotes and then the city of your choice.

Works for Peoria even.

Columbus Mayor Michael B. Coleman, the official race starter for the 2011 event said, “Capital City Half Marathon is truly a world class event in a world class city."

Wairoa (Hawkes Bay) is apparently not a world-class city. Still, it has a damn fine pie shop.

It is a TOWN.

With world-class trout fishing up-river!

Even the liberal New York Times agrees on the high quality of Wairoa's pie shop.

Oh those barefoot young scamps in Wairoa!
Jeebus that's somewhat dodgy talk in the backblocks.
