A Plague of Lighthouse-Keepers

Certain bloggers become all hot and bothered when they watch ladies from Hagen singing about lighthouses.* This seems a relatively harmless paraphilia compared to all the possible alternatives, and one we should probably encourage. So without further ado, here is Karori Rock... not just a musical genre!

Also too, Freyssinet's 1937 Pharos, which is

(a) conclusive proof that engineer / architects should not be allowed to design buildings modeled after chess pieces; and

(b) the only example of French visionary architecture to appear in Heavy Metal [Nov. 1984 issue]. Boullée, Ledoux and Lequeu all have sads about that.

* As any fule kno, all the best German pop singers come from the Ruhrgebiet. No-one knows why.

Lighthouse goes up, lighthouse goes down. You can't explain it!

See the autombiles carefully driving up and down the tower with no problems.

A Plague of Lighthouse-Keepers

A little known novel from Keith Laumer's anti-depressant period...

Someone recently informed me that lighthouses could be considered to be phallic symbols.

Strange.

If erection continues to emit rhythmic flashes of focussed light for more than four hours, seek medical advice.

Honestly, it's the foghorn that really surprises.

And I REALLY hate it when the waves crash on the rocks...

It's also off-putting when wet scaly sea-monsters emerge from the depths and rub themselves against the tower.

Scaly sea monsters have needs, too.

It's the antipuddlian accent: he says "HOT" and it just sounds like "off-putting."

Calling colour-vision specialists.

I read down as far as comment 13, quoting a paragraph from Chingizi about colour blindness, which reads like an attempt to be wrong about as many different things as possible. I don't know where to start with the sentence-by-sentence fisking.

Chingizi is the adaptive-function-of-pruny-fingers evo-psych jerkwad.

I would start in about issues and problems, but my experience is that non-architect/engineer types won't listen anyway. I have also found that once their misguided attempts fail, often in humorous and hilariously ironic ways, the arguments about my billing rates evaporate.

Leela's great, but she's no Nena. Another thing, I prefer my Leela's to be sexy cyclops girls.

Now, about those scaly sea monsters humping lighthouses... the siren song of the foghorn is well nigh irresistible, I say I say.

Discussions of lighthouses should include a reference to the cantina at the end of the world in "Under the Volcano", El Farolito. The cantina it was based on, still going strong, is called La Farola bringing up some gender issues.

This is where I like to hang out.

I have been watching these fecking things for days. Are they ever going to take off?
