A Job Lot

In the historical period from 1985 to 1995, known in New Zild as When Pirates Were In Charge, the union movement suffered. Free marketeers had no time for the whims and vagaries of trying to earn enough to survive and various bits of legislation were passed to keep the poor folks off the lawn, as it were.
Now, of course, we live in much more enlightened times and the current bunch of economic, social  and environmental vandals that we call a Guvvelment realise that workers have their place.
Inna sack, mainly.
Thus they are getting ready to pass some jolly old laws that say that you should be able to be fired for no reason after 90 days and 'tough biscuits, sunshine' and at the same time they want to restrict union access to workplaces. The head of the Chamberpot of Commerce says that there are a few bad employers who will do bad stuff but so few etc etc and that compared to many countries we will still have wide open workplaces. I know I should feel better about not living in Saudi Arabia but I am difficult like that.
Now comes news that the former head of the Grovelment National Party has bled his employer dry. No 90 days malarkey for him and he didn't need no steenking union to get the moolah.
so, what with building more prisons, taking away worker's rights, ripping themselves off, cracking down on welfare and lining up the environment for the wood chipper machine, I think that they have the Conservative playbook about done.
Still a year of the bastards to go as well.

The task force is working on its second report on how to close the gap with Australia, despite the Government largely dismissing the first report which called for the Government to slash its spending by $9 billion, reform welfare, scrap the NZ Superannuation Fund, raise the pension age, cut subsidies for health and education, and reform employment law.

Wow, why would they dismiss a perfectly reasonable report like that? Those old people would only have to work 4 days a year at Brash's salary anyway. Whiners.

Easy. I worked for a prison for 90 days and fed my family by stealing from the kitchen. Then I got sentenced for stealing and entered the prison...I got that far...Don Juan Brash asked me for advice to help him get more money to give advice...I advised that he pay me to advise him...he said he had no money.
Still in prison.

Maybe they could write to Obama for advice on blaming everything on fish.

Kudos to him for calling himself Dr. Brash instead of Dr. Evil.

National Party commissioned focus groups found negative connotations to the name Dr. Evil.

Focus groups also found the title Dr. Strangelove spookily prescient.

its second report on how to close the gap with Australia

The new proposal -- of ways to make it easier for employers to reduce their employees' wages -- is apparently an integral part of closing the wage gap with Australia. WE ARE NOT MAKING THIS UP.

It would be churlish to point out that the time when the wage gap developed coincides with the previous application of employer-friendly unfettered-free-market policies.
