Spam, Spam, Spam, Pathos and Spam

The award for 'Most Embarrassingly Pathetic Plea for a Pity-Fuck from a wannabee predatory publisher' goes to...
Bio Accent!
From Renu and Ravi Kuppala, of Hyderabad. Not only naming their company like a laundry-powder additive; but also for contributions to fulsome flattery in the griftergram genre:
We, Bio Accent open access publishers came newly into publishing sector to provide a platform to the researchers, practitioners, students and professionals from both academia as well as industry to meet and share cutting-edge development in the field of Neurology.

We have found your profile from your institute; it seems you are a very good expert in Neurology. We don’t want to miss your appreciable work so, we are inviting you for manuscript submission in BAOJ Neurology.

We request you to let us know if you have any kind of research work to publish with us and please let me know your tentative date of manuscript submission.

We are expecting huge support from your side, so it will help us to get indexed & impact factor soon.

Awaiting for your positive response.

Sincerely
Jassi

But "Fair words butter no more than 0.025% of parsnips" as we found in the course of rigorous research at the Riddled Experimental Cuisine Laboratory. A rough translation follows (courtesy of the Riddled Ktistec Machine):
Ktistec Machine
"The website collections of floor-sweepings, barrel-bottom scrapings, and jizzmop squeezings that we misrepresent as 'journals' are such contemptible trash that they are not indexed or impact-factored [and we can't be arsed buying a fake impact factor or fake indexing from one of the second-order parasites, or making up our own like the other low-lifes in the field]. It would benefit our scammy enterprise if we could steal reputation and prestige from established researchers. Please pay $650 each time you transfer your credibility to us."
From Oglaf
When this doesn't work, they will progress to the "Other Operation" (in which they offer not to publish my papers as long as I don't send them $650); and after that, to the "Other Other Operation" (in which they threaten to publish my papers, unless I send them $650).

Immoral porpoise seeks staid lions for mutual mynah-transporting
[Now the sands' become a crust,
And most of you have gone away]

How many other blogs bring you shocking footage of an exhibitionist whale indulging his erotic-asphyxiation choke fetish, in front of families, while wearing a Scramble Suit to conceal his identity?

None more. None more other blogs.

Of course the whale's liberal apologists are blaming this vile behaviour upon society, or else claiming that it was all just a "fluke accident".

O brave new world,
That has such people in't

"The Interlattice," said Another Kiwi over a pint of Mango-nel Weaponised Fruchtbier, "is like fire, or a bicycle, or an alligator pit... perilous in the wrong hands, but a great boon when used wisely."
Weaponised
Fruchtbier

Wise use
Without the Interwebs, for instance, we would never have been apprised of the existence of Dr Ariel Fernandez -- strolling player, hydrogen-bond theorist and freelance drug researcher, himself the subject of recent inquiry from the commentariat of ResearchWatch.

Here is the Whackyweedia Chat page in which various pseudonymous entities, wishing to further improve the already-fulsome Ariel Fernandez entry, argue with the WW panjandra who had locked it before the advertorial style grew worse. Far be it for us -- given Dr Fernandez's fondness for lawyerly posturing and threats of defamation suits whenever he feels that his reputation has been traduced -- to suggest that many of the pseudonyms who present information to his credit are sockpuppets. Following a venerable literary tradition, we merely pretend that texts from different people are in fact the work of a single individual.
Dr Fernandez's understanding of defamation law is sufficiently novel to have inspired a blogpost from a lawyer.

Anyways, the Chat page is worth reading in its entirety, and would require little adaptation to work as a stage production such as the Riddled Amateur Dramatic Society $mas Pantomime. Ideally all the parts would be narrated by John Gielgud in the manner of Prospero's Books but you can't have everything. Alters spawn and support one another in the manner of split-personality schlock psychology fiction from the 1980s. The dramatic tension ratchets steadily up, with Wiki staffers cast in the roles of Stephano and Caliban. It culminates in a dramatic crescendo in which newly-created characters 'Liping Laura Meng' and 'Doug Larkin Tobias' -- still dripping fluids from the axolotl tanks -- vouch for the independent existence of 'Heidi B /  Haydee Belinky'; Heidi / Haydee claims in turn:

(a) to be a different person from A. Fernandez,
(b) indeed to hardly know him except by repute, which was inspiration enough to edit his Wiki entry;
(c) to be pseudonymous; and
(d) to be defamed and dishonoured by the Wiki staffers' base suspicions to the contrary. Lawyerly posturing
ensues, with threats of lawsuits to protect Heidi's good pseudonym.
All different people!

The spark for the original furore (and the only reason for caring about any of this) was that close examination of Dr Fernandez's data sets -- the foundation of his academic reputation -- revealed peculiar and unconvincing qualities to them. Almost as if the data points had been generated from a theoretical linear or parabolic line, with noise added in a half-assed way.

Further information is is available at Dr Fernandez's collection of press releases, where he wages a lonely rearguard action against the McCarthyist slander machine of Retraction Watch; and from the like-minded blog of Weishi Laura Meng who promotes Fernandez's work, interviews him, and is completely a nother person.

Bear in mind that this is the Intertubes where commentaters may not even be aware that they are dream-birthed emanations from someone else.
UPDATE: Apparently the Whackyweedia has policy against meatpuppetry as well as against sockpuppets. This would provide a perfect excuse to link to Survival Research Laboratory performances involving Piggly-Wiggly or the Rabot, but there seem to be no extant videos, only images.

Never mind, here's some Curved Air, because who doesn't love Sonja Kristina?

UPDATE2: We seem to have buried the lede here. But it was TOTALLY AN ACCIDENT, and anyway it was the lede's fault for loitering around near the back-hoe while we were engaged in body-disposal carbon sequestration activities.

Dr Fernandez is not just any Interweb or Twittertroll, deploying a sock-drawer of alters. He had carved out an illustrious high-flying academic career -- in the Icarian sense -- with an Endowed Chair and such as, before the journals went all Expressions-of-Concern and his co-authors sidled away from any confidence in the reality of his data, and he was amending the Acknowledgement sections of his papers to scrub the sources of funding in a way that removed them from the jurisdiction of the Office of research Integrity. Something is seriously wrong with an academic world that can spurn such talent, so now as AFInnovation he offers his expertise "as expert consultant in pharmaceutical patent litigation".

Reassuringly, Fernandez has not abandoned the scientific endeavour altogether. He continues to serve on the Editorial Boards of Metabolomics (a mockademic pukefunnels from the Omics vanity press) and the Journal of Biological Physics and Chemistry (a mockademic journal spawned from the “Collegium Basilea” -- an odd organisation which bestows honorary titles in return for its membership fees). He continues to promote his research through Youtube, where it has impressed  non-sockpuppet cheerleaders like Xi Wang, Liping Xie and Howard Wu.

Pronounced throat wobbler mangrove.

" I see" vouchsafed Smut Clyde, sitting down at the Riddled tearoom Louis XIVth table " that the America's Cup Yachts are racing again"
I put the biscuit tin back on the table after shaking it upside-down and mournfully replaced the lid. "Yes" I agreed "muscles, sinews and brains combining in a perfect storm of yachting excitement that holds the America's cup fanbase enthralled"
"Yes" said tigiris "all seven of them are in a trouser-wetting state".
"Oh?" enquired Smut "have they had a membership drive, lately? It seems that the Yachting fanboy world is all a-zither about the boats"
Yes" I agreed "technology and muscle and sinew and brains combining in a yachting race thingo, continuing the long and honourable competition."
"I think it reached its height of competition honour, when they said the challengers had to sail their boats to New York for the races." said tigris "thus ensuring that the cup wasn't startled into being won by anyone non-New Yorkian for 100 years."
"Ah, it is race rich in tradition" I said "remember the legal shenanigans over this tournament  when the holder changed the boat specs. What a funny old game, the yachting game."
"A rich man's show pony game" said tigris 'what it really needs is cannons on the boats."
"And a selection of cannon balls" said Smut "so you could balance the weight of hull piercing solid shot with the destructiveness of lighter grapeshot."
"With compulsory rum drinking at various buoy placings" I ventured " and the teams each have a surprise drinking spot forced on them by the other team in between buoys."
"Sharks in the water?" suggested tigris.
"Might run into animal ethics problems with feeding them highly marinated sailors" opined Smut.
"Still, eh" I enthused " the NZ name and brand is on the world's lips as they watch every enthralling race. The last government and this invested 30 million dollars very wisely.
"The name of Emirates Airlines is on the lips of the Americas cup fanboys' observed tigris "who probably own holiday islands in artificial lakes they dynamited in Tuscany and so probably don't come to NZ very much"
"Artificial lakes sound like fun" said Smut taking out his calculator.
"What sounds like fun" I noted "is  Rectilinear convergence in sub-optimal time/space conditions and  two-for-one toads in-several- holes, night at the Old Entomologist"
"You have a point there" said Smut.

I do not know why Jason Richwine has opted for the facial grooming of a date rapist; perhaps it is a condition of his parole *

Puppet with bad facial hair [right]

The wonderful Intertuba invention has brought Jason Richwine, PhD, C.M.S-p to the world's attention, competing unfairly with our own home-grown shitweasels. Richwine is an erstwhile employee of one Republican front Thought Tonk who moved to a second Thought Tonk for a change of intellectual milieu. There he laboured in the Boilerplate factory preparing material to be stove-piped to the usual pukefunnel recipients.

Attention has recently turned to the PhD Richwine acquired from Harvard University in his gap year between Thought Tonks. His thesis revives the century-old argument that non-Anglo immigration to the US is a Bad Thing because the immigrants are too stupid to feed themselves unsupervised... with a global replacement of the specific list of genetically-inferior mud-people so that it now reads "Hispanics" instead of the original "Eastern and Southern Europeans (and Jews and the Irish)".

Richwine's list of references includes 8 citations of the work of Borjas, his chief examiner, which was probably politic. Linda Gottfredson features five times, she being the co-instigator (with David Brooks) of an egregious 1994 exercise in lending academic respectability to racism.** Six references to the theoretical stylings of J. Philippe Rushton.*** The Herrnstein-Murray "Bell Curve" is there, and eight references to Richwine's mentor, an AEI senior fellow and cross-burner:

Evidently AEI also sponsored the PhD, and provided Richwine with four interns to do the actual research, while Murray is further credited with 'expert editing':

Two questions come to mind:
1. Should not Harvard have awarded the doctorate directly to the organ-grinder AEI, skipping over the figurehead?

2. Is "mentor" a strong enough term for Murray's contribution? Perhaps "ghostwriter" would be better.

Alas, Richwine no longer works for Heritage, who do not wish to be linked to the stink of an overt white supremacist, although they do stand by the white-supremacy reports he prepared for them. This has led the defenders of Academic Freedom to worry about a chilling effect. However, Heritage policy holds that "workforce mobility" and job insecurity are Good Things, so Richwine is no doubt grateful for the chance to experience them.
----------------------------------------------------------
* Title changed because kids these days don't recognise Patti Smith lyrics.

** Gottfredson's intellectual odyssey -- to IQ/race quackery from a background in Holland-hexagon employment-psych. quackery -- is worthy of a post in itself.

*** Rushton of black-dick-size fixation fame. He was convinced that black males are stupider than white males because they have larger penes, because dick size and brain size are mutually incompatible, according to a K/r reproductive strategy argument all of his own. I AM NOT MAKING THIS UP. This theory required him to peruse Penthouse Forum for evidence, which is the BEST EXCUSE EVAH, and to ask his students to rate their own appendages. Liberal scientists are not advised to try this.
The late Rushton never pursued the obvious corollary that women of any race are smarter than men; perhaps the possibility that breed-stock could be intelligent did not occur to him.

"They migrate to new places and particularize, whereupon languages mutate, costumes and conventions elaborate, aesthetic symbols take on fresh meanings."

To celebrate "Act Like a Jack Vance Character" Day we kicked it Nolde-school as we say at Riddled (thereby revealing an unhealthy preoccupation with Danish-German expressionist painters) and sought inspiration from the Rhodomontades or Purple Mountains of Pampas, the second incontinent of Buriden 4337, where the Salamanders and Salamogyns stack up their dwellings in curious, ramshackle congeries.

Owing to a lapse or lacuna in stocking the colony ship which settled Buriden 4337, the on-board library consisted of one single book, and generations of colonists spent the voyage reading and re-reading the battered copy of Frog & Friends. It was inevitable that amphibians would come to occupy a crucial role in their culture. No doubt you are all familiar with Baron Bodissey's monograph on the place of the newt in the Salamandrin world-view, numbered as one of the Appendices to Volume Eight of his slight and by no means comprehensive Life.

Perhaps now Evangeline van Holsterin's idiot boyfriend will learn not to trust advice from Swearing Bob about proper Rhodomontane etiquette. Here he is shown greeting his paramour with the aid of his batrachian buddy "Hoppy", but the gestures are all wrong so it amounts to a crude invitation to amplexus. He has been pwned, or pignorated as we say at Riddled. I do not think there will be toad-in-the-hole tonight. He will be dealing to his tadpole by himself.

Tradition demanded that the regulars at the Old Entomologist defend Evangeline's honour by pelting him with rambutans and hairballs IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE PROPHECY. But the alternative is sodomy by mulletfish so he didn't complain.

Never mind, he didn't miss much: Salamandrin amplexus is not as much fun as it looks.

Afterwards it was the two-for-one special on Spiced Parsnip Porter and Sphinx Purge. I'm sure that Another Kiwi and Space-Time Eddie just rested their eyes momentarily, and shame on whoever it was who seized that brief opportunity to doodle on their faces with a felt-pen. The embarrassment of a square on the forehead has caused Eddie to regress to his two-year-old state (it's quite disconcerting when he does that). AK is chortling quietly at the stripling's discomfiture but HA HA he has no idea that he is himself similarly bedizened with a backward 'D'; I have to admit that's funny.

Lost or Stolen:
One Pantomime Horse costume

The performance is not quite the same without it.

We may have to go all meta and write a new script, for "The Emperor's New Pantomime Horse Costume".

UPDATED: B4 in comments raises the topic of "erotic pony artist".
This in turn raises the question, "In the search for traffic and unusual search term combinations, how far will the Riddled staff go in their willingness to pander to the full range of sexual perversions proclivities?"

At least this far: Chelonian erotic cosplay.
BONUS Man-on-box-turtle action.

Advice to Wile E.

1. Your name in Antipoddlean is pronounced "Coy-Oat". There is nothing to be done about this. Live with it.

2. In the course of Road-Runner-related activities, avoid any plan that involves a steel-girder-constructed London rival to a well-known Parisian landmark. It will inevitably end with you poised above a 1300-ft drop with legs windmilling madly until gravity belatedly pulls you down. Also, jokes about the "I-Fell Tower".

A happy baby performing gymnastics in utero *

* Description courtesy of the cataloger at NOAA.
The University of Iowa Library also has a copy.

It is never too early to begin the training in calisthenics and rhythmic gymnastics, if your child is to have a decent chance competing in the Olympics. More and more parents are resorting to intrauterine education in order to gain an edge on the opposition. Here is a lady introducing her unborn octuplets to contemporary hoop technique.

See how well it has worked!

In contrast, here are the Sigismund Sextuplets who set out to acquire hula-hoop skills in their mid-teens... despite years of intensive practice they are still not clear on the concept.

English Championship Soccer league wrap.

Brian O'Brien: Good evening and welcome to the yearly annual wrap up of The English championship League with internationally recognised football pundit, Another Kiwi.
(Silence, then squeaking noise)
AK: Alls I did was sit on the fecking chair and it broke. Have we lost the knowledge of chairmaking?
Alexi (sound booth tech): Dunno, ask security, they have lost and found.
B O'B: AK are you there?
AK: Hello Bob.
B O'B: Brian
AK: He wants to talk to you, Brian.
Alexi: What?
B O'B: No AK, that's Alexi, the sound guy.
AK: Not chair mechanic, that's bleedin obvious.(door slams) Oh he's gone now.
B O'B:  So, the Championship League and the promotion of Westham United?
AK: Brendan it was a very close race, very close and the better team, on the day won, and that team, Brendan was football, Brendan.
B O'B: Brian.
AK: That's not the so called chair fixer is it, because it's still very wobbly. No Brad, Southampton could count themselves lucky to be going up.
B O'B: Because they won everything all year?
AK: No because they have been devastated, Brill, devastated by shipyard closure. Little babbies with not enough shoes to eat! Many of the amptons should be counting their blessings.
B O'B: Southampton shipyard closures after the First World War?
AK:  Aren't we all, Brie, aren't we all.
B O'B: So AK, how will the Hammers shape up in the Premier League.
AK: William, I think they'll do OK. They have the nucleus of a good side, the movement up will give them publicity and attract new players and they have a side that knows how to win games now. Carlton Cole was saying this morning how he wanted to make a real success of it.
B O'B:  Uh, right. How's the chair?
AK: THE CHAIR IS IMMATERIAL HERE, WALTER!
(crashing sound, door opens,)
Alexi: Sorry Mr AK. I can't help you, I'm not a chair repairer.
(door shuts)
AK: The poor wee babbies eatin' sardine sammiches!
B O'B: Well, it's time for some interesting music.

With an even littler eye

You know how it is when you're a pipsqueak country on the edge of the world, a country like, oh I don't know. NEW ZEALAND!!!! Such  country is largely hoping not to be noticed all that much except for tourism (huge tracts of scenery). Certainly when people want a holiday in a place where many of the locals speak a form of Unglush and are largely not so harmful, you might say "What about that New Zild? We can take our own sausages wrapped in Choc-chip pancakes if they do not have them". And right you would be, aside from roads lining with glaring peasants and bureaucrats that Margaret Thatcher would be scared of,  there is not much going to go wrong here (offer valid until December 1961).
And how might you find out about such a scenic wonderland that is nothing like East Germany!! Why you might find out from travel agents who in turn find out from tourism industry workers. Because we are a fly speck on the window pane of the glorious Earth we have some government intervention in said tourism and such concerning damn furriners our friends from over the briny.
This sort of help for tourism in the hope getting them in here for a damn good fleecing the experience of a lifetime may be in jeopardy (incidentally a leopard would certainly place one in jeopard, would it not) due to the careful ministrations of the anti-gubblement government (vote for us, we'll dissolve before your very eyes)
MFAT (Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade)  says it plans to improve its efficiency by forming a smaller ministry with about 200 fewer roles.
It will also introduce a new business model, simpler systems and improved technology.
Ah ha! Great plan we're going to destroy the workforce and give the shell-shocked survivors, Blackberrys.

Some whiners have their doubts about the re-gooding (Womack. J, 1985) but they are just stick-in-the-mud public service association (PSA) types
the PSA was promised no front-line jobs would be lost, but it is no longer convinced this is the case.
Now, MFAT is the home of those most secretest of the  secret, the Security Intelligence Service of New Zild. Yes, devil-may-care, raffish and international persons of mystery, the spies. While this gubblement is verrrrrry keen on slashing the Public Service Communist party to the bone, I wonder if the spies will have to cut back on their luxury apartments and Aston Martin DB9s. Who knows, it could be a stirred martini with a teeny tiny tini and you'll damn well like it!

The Game of Bat and Drag-on

Evangeline von Holsteren (head barmaid at the Old Entomologist) has informed the clientele that that we will be fielding a cricket team this season, oh yes, try not to cheer too loudly.
Lack of proper cricket whites will not be accepted as an excuse.

UPDATE with Bonus Cricket costume.

Paradigming the Narrative with Contextual Synergistic Output Enhancement

Good news! The people at Cowtech University have assessed my Performance Self-Evaluation Evidence Portfolio and sent it back with a list of comments for improving the Portfolio before it goes off to the Tertiary Education Commission, all neatly tabulated in the form of a checklist.

Item 13 on the checklist: "Is the research trajectory evidenced?" It appears that I was supposed to write a Trajectory within one of the boxes provided on the Portfolio form. Sadly, my Research Trajectory is more of a vertical plummet. The only times I can bring myself to use the word 'trajectory' is in close association with 'rectory' in the lines of a rude limerick.

Item 18: "Is the commentary / narrative embedded throughout the entire Evidence Portfolio? Provides an overview which connects all the elements of the Evidence Portfolio." Apparently the Tertiary Education Commission wants narrative. I hope they are prepared for slapstick comedy.

The Assessment team complain that in the absence of sufficient Narrative, they are unable to form a constructive opinion on a number of items on the checklist, beginning with #1, "Is selection of TEC panel appropriate to the 4 NROs selected and appropriate to where the person is publishing?"

But fortunately I pass on Item 9: "Is the Evidence Portfolio free of cryptic references? (abbreviations, institutional specific, jargon, acronyms etc)". So it's celebration time down at the pub and the first pint of Gaffer Gammidge's Parsnip Elixir and Shoat Weaner is on me!

Sheep line up to be shorn; persuaded to wear docking rings to show support for shearers

Any fule kno by now that the Rugby World Cup about to splash down in New Zealand like an oversized turd into a half-sized punchbowl is really an elaborate experiment. The sociologists have found an isolated population of nimrods and dimbulbs and they are wondering: How many arbitrary humiliations and injuries can Kiwis be persuaded to inflict on themselves by presenting them as visible signs of support for the local team,* before they are finally all "Bugger this for a game of soldiers"?

Last week, of course, the purity test gesture of support was to donate a $130 Stupidity Tax to a China-based, Germany-headquartered clothing manufacturer.

Now foopball players are renowned for conserving energy for the game through sexual continence, so this week we are being exhorted to give up sex to show our solidarity. No really. Also our abstinence will help the team more if we sign up with a telecommunications company and wear black rubber rings around our necks fingers.

Pressed to explain the intended target for this veritable FAILvalance, the Telecom marketing director admitted that other forms of mortification and self-denial would boost the team's chances just as effectively:
...Cooney said the campaign isn't necessarily about just abstaining from sex, saying participants could give up anything during the tournament.
Perhaps they picked on sex as the activity most New Zealanders will find it easiest to eschew and will miss the least, rather than (say) drinking. I suppose we are lucky they didn't go the Mayan route and call for a national campaign of tongue-piercing and penile blood-letting.

It will certainly be terrible if the effect of this abstinence campaign is to shed a pall of suspicion over anyone not wearing the ring, that they lack a collective identity and spend their nights screwing like minks on methedrine.

* "Local" in the sense of "Paid by the NZ Rugby Union". Not intended to mean that team members were born in NZ or hold NZ citizenship.

Suckers Surprised by Unevenness of Break

So here in the Shire the foolish hobbitses have discovered that the Official All-Black mithril-mail Jersey, sold to them at $220 to show their support for the Great Patriotic Struggle, can be bought on-line in distant lands and shipped to the Shire for only $90.
Initially the dwarvish chthonic artisans of Adidas explained the discrepancy as the outcome of rate-of-exchange fluctuations. On sober reflection (and on receiving e-mails saying "Fluct you Germans too!" from Mr Patel at the corner dairy), they have reverted to the more sustainable explanation of "Shut up that's why" and informed the hobbits that a sincere patriot would willingly pay the higher price, meanwhile amending their on-line shops to remove the Shire from the list of shipping destinations. The Rugby Union, anticipating their slice of that unearned 140% extra profit, have lingered in the background while hoping the whole affair will blow over.

OK, so a multinational corporation -- having paid for its monopoly, and eager to maximise its profits -- is fostering "totemic attachment to a group of professional athletes" as the norm and as a reason for paying silly money for tokens of that attachment. That's what they do. But the hobbits are rancid and ropable due to Adidas thinking they are stupid enough to let themselves be exploited by a spurious sense of nationalism. They really are not clear on the concept of 'sports industry'.
Never mind; something shiny will soon distract them and they will forget about it until next time.

Who are you backing for the Wolves vs. Fulham on Sunday week, AK?

Right up front to the back of your skull

Recall J. G. Ballard's Pushme-pullyou theory of the earlier stages in human evolution:
In a dramatic development, it transpires that archaic, more symmetrical species of human beings have managed to survive into the modern day!

They have kept themselves concealed from science by staying within the confines of the Vatican City, where they are respected and well-remunerated in their traditional role as lacrosse referees.
Here the ref. is reminding the Pope about the exact wording of the offside rule. He will be headed for the penalty box if he continues to argue, joining the two Cardinal players and the Dominican who are there already for brawling. There is no room for Jesuit sophistry on the lacrosse field.
